Here is a letter from Peter Kenny, Middlesex County Field Director:

I started out in politics when I ran for secretary for my middle school‘s student council. I lost by one vote but was later appointed to serve as Student Council Representative-at-Large and remained active in student council ever since. Later, I was appointed to the North Brunswick Youth Council and became Youth Council Vice President. Currently, I also serve as the Executive Director of a support and advocacy group for the disabled called, “The Byron Foundation.”

At age 18, I became the first person with autism to run for political office in North Brunswick. I ran for Board of Education and earned 487 votes, but felt short by 218 votes out of the 1650 votes cast. I again ran for the School Board and had 411 votes and lost the election by 299 votes out of the over 2400 votes cast. These experiences have made me stronger and further inspired me to fight for progressive ideas we believe in.

As part of DYNO, I support a progressive national agenda. My goals for Middlesex County on the local level are as follows:

  • To help the people who are left out in the cold by the politicians and give them a voice.
  • To reach out to the poorest sections of the county and push for programs that will help the less fortunate get back on their feet, such as increasing volunteer participation to food banks, soup kitchens, and shelters.
  • To promote more affordable housing in the county.
  • To advocate for more effective programs for the disabled, especially disabled seniors.

Thank you,
Peter J. Kenny
